Emergency Plumbing

Burst pipes, failed flexi hoses and sewage backing up. On a line already running at its limit a small fault becomes a flooded laundry quickly. We answer across Ryde 24 hours.

Emergency call-outs

Hot Water

Gas, electric, heat pump and solar, repaired or replaced same day where we can. Sydney water is soft, so what finishes a unit here is the anode or the element, not scale.

Gas Fitting

Cooktops, heaters and gas lines connected, tested and certified on the spot. A Certificate of Compliance on every gas job, without being asked for it.

Blocked or slow? If it started after a second bathroom or a second dwelling went in, the line is probably at capacity rather than blocked. A camera tells you which. Start with our guide to what to try on a blocked toilet.

What a plumber costs in Ryde

Hardly any plumbing site will put a number in writing. These are 2026 Sydney entry figures, published so you have something solid to hold every quote against, ours included. Those are the broad numbers: what it costs to get a van to your door, and what the market charges by the hour. Prices for specific jobs sit on each service page.

01

Getting someone out: $0–$180

Nothing at all when the job is booked through here. Arranged another way, a standard Sydney attendance fee runs to the top of that range.

02

The hourly rate you will be quoted elsewhere: $100–$150

The daytime Sydney rate, and what most quotes are quietly built on. We do not price that way, for the reason set out under these cards.

03

After hours, weekends and holidays: $180–$250

The market's loading for nights, weekends and public holidays. Ours is a job price agreed before the van moves, with nothing added afterwards.

04

A typical emergency repair: $250–$700

A burst made safe, a drain cleared, a gas fault isolated. One figure, instead of a clock that starts the moment we park outside.

05

Your fixed price: agreed first

Written down before anything begins. If what we find changes the work, you approve the new figure before anyone carries on.

Two of these belong to the market rather than to us, and they are here deliberately. An hourly rate prices the plumber's time instead of your problem, and it tells you nothing about whether the job is a clear or a line that needs replacing. We price the job rather than the hour, so the figure you approve is the figure you settle. On an old line that also means the diagnosis is ours to get right, not yours to fund. Where you already know what you need, the real figures live on the blocked drains, pipe relining, burst pipes and leaks, hot water and gas fitting pages.

The difference between a plumber and a licensed plumber.

Anyone can call themselves a plumber. A licensed one carries a NSW licence number, real insurance, and the legal accountability that comes with both, so when a gas job is certified or a repair signed off, it actually means something.

Our plumbers are NSW licensed, fully insured, and work these postwar streets constantly. Everything is done to the Australian Standards with a written lifetime workmanship warranty.

Local area guide

Plumbing in Ryde

Ryde is a suburb that changed and left its plumbing behind. At the 2021 Census 43.8% of dwellings here were high density and only 38.6% were separate houses, close to the reverse of Greater Sydney. The house streets that remain were carved out of orchards and poultry farms from the 1950s, and much of their drainage is still the pipe that went in then. From the Ryde River flats to the ridgelines of Denistone West and Tennyson Point, a licensed local plumber is only minutes away, same-day and 24/7 for genuine emergencies.

Common plumbing problems we see in Ryde

  • Drains doing double their design load. A 1950s earthenware house drain was graded for one small house with one bathroom, and after sixty-five years and a renovation or two it is being asked to do roughly double that.
  • Hot water systems giving out. Soft water across Sydney means a dead unit here is a spent anode or element far more often than scale. We repair and replace gas, electric, heat pump and solar, frequently same day.
  • Ageing galvanised & earthenware pipe. Older homes in North Ryde, West Ryde and Denistone still run on steel and clay pipe that rusts, roots and splits over time.
  • Gas fitting & compliance. Cooktops, heaters and gas lines in postwar homes often run on pipework sized for what the house had in 1960. Our licensed fitters bring it up to standard and certify it on the spot.
  • Two dwellings, one drain. A second dwelling on a postwar block is usually plumbed into the existing house's private line rather than given its own connection, so both households share a pipe sized for one.
  • Stormwater built for smaller roofs. Every extension, carport and paved area added since the 1950s sheds water the original stormwater lines were never sized to take, so the overflow arrives at the lowest point.

Still have a question? Licensed plumber van servicing Ryde
How much does a plumber charge per hour in Ryde?

Sydney sits at $100 to $150 an hour, and an hourly figure hides what your job will actually cost. We price the whole piece of work first, so the number you approve is the number you pay, whether it turns out to be twenty minutes or most of a day.

How fast can you get to me in Ryde?

On a genuine emergency we aim to reach you inside the hour anywhere in Ryde and the inner north west, at any hour and on any day of the year.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

Any call-out or after-hours charge is named on the phone before we leave, so nothing new appears on the invoice. Book through this site and the standard call-out is waived entirely.

How do I know you're a licensed plumber?

NSW Licence 368473C, checkable yourself on the Fair Trading register. Unlicensed plumbing is illegal in this state and it voids your home insurance, so ask anyone for their number before they start. Ours is printed on every quote we send.

My hot water system failed and it isn't that old. Why?

Sydney's water is soft, so scale is rarely what kills a unit here. Nine times in ten it is a sacrificial anode that has been used up or a failed element, and a good proportion of the time both of those are a repair rather than a replacement.

Our drain was fine for years and now it backs up. Nothing has changed. Why?

Something almost certainly did change, just not inside the house. If a bathroom, an ensuite or a second dwelling was added at any point, the original line is now carrying more than it was laid for, and a postwar earthenware drain has no spare capacity to give. Add sixty-odd years of joints slowly opening and a line that always coped starts failing on the busy days. It is a capacity problem wearing the costume of a blockage, and a camera separates the two.

Do you work on heritage and conservation-area homes?

Ryde's housing is mostly postwar rather than heritage. The area was orchards and poultry farms until development took off in the 1950s, and the streets that came out of that are brick veneer from the 1950s and 60s. What that means practically is original rough-ins that fit nothing modern, and earthenware drainage now well past the age where its joints stay tight.

There are two dwellings on our block. Whose drain is whose?

Frequently one drain, which surprises people. When a second dwelling goes onto a postwar block it is usually plumbed into the existing house's private line rather than given its own connection at the main, because that is far cheaper to build. So both households share a 70-year-old pipe sized for one, a blockage affects both, and there is rarely any paperwork saying so. We camera it and tell you exactly how it is actually connected.

What areas around Ryde do you cover?

The whole Ryde LGA and every suburb around it: West Ryde, North Ryde, East Ryde, Meadowbank, Denistone, Denistone East, Denistone West, Shepherds Bay and more.

Hot water systems we service and replace

Hot water is the call we take most often here, and these are the makes behind it. Electric storage in a great many of the postwar houses, gas where the street has it, and continuous flow wherever a tank had to come off the ground and onto a wall. Repairing and replacing hot water systems is most of what we do here, and we are straight about what each job costs and the age at which a unit stops being worth fixing.

We service and replace these systems as an independent licensed plumber. We are not an agent for, or endorsed by, any of these manufacturers.
